This specimen was issued to commemorate the fiftieth anniversary of the creation of Czechoslovakia (1918) and the twentieth anniversary of the founding of the Socialist Republic (1948). While there was likely interest in the first event, one can assume that only Communist party hacks cared about the second. This the only Czech fifty korun struck to this standard; a smaller 31 mm module was normally employed. It is the closest thing to a crown struck by the Czechs until some commemoratives of the 1980's.
Recorded mintage: 58,000 plus 2,000 proofs.
Specification: 20 g, 0.900 fine silver, .578 troy oz ASW, 37 mm diameter, reeded edge, designed by J. Harcuba, Imra Svitana and Jan Zoricak.
