1914 100 pounds

This specimen was lot 28240 in Heritage sale 4033 (Dallas, TX, October 2021), where it sold for $3,600. The catalog description noted, "Great Britain Bank of England, Manchester 100 Pounds 28.5.1914 Pick 308b B208ff PMG About Uncirculated 55. An incredible, large format offering from Manchester, this type is rare in any grade and missing from many collections. This World War I era banknote represented an impressive sum of money, and as such, few were printed and usage was not widespread. In fact, all banknotes featuring the signature of John Gordon Nairne are rarely seen today. This high denomination note was withdrawn after World War II, leaving a scant few extant. Lightened notations are mentioned for accuracy."
