This specimen was lot 30830 in Heritage sale 3073 (Chicago, April 2019), where it sold for $16,800. The catalog description[1] noted, "Republic gold Proof 'Lenin' 100 Pesos 1977 PR64 Ultra Cameo NGC, KM 42. Only 10 examples struck. This is the only specimen that we have encountered or know of. We note that the Standard Catalog of World Coins lists the type at $10,000 in PR65." This type, with only ten pieces struck, must have been delivered to insiders in the communist regime. Later NCLT's, designed for the mass market, were minted in large quantities and featured such revolutionary topics as dinosaurs, pirates and steam locomotives.
