This specimen was lot 34565 in Ponterio sale 177 (Chicago, August 2013), where it sold for $1,058. The catalog description[1] noted, "CUBA. Peso, 1934. NGC MS-64." The type was struck in the United States for Cuba 1934-39 using silver dollar blanks. Most were held in government vaults as backing for paper currency and later melted; the original mintage has little bearing on the number of survivors.
Recorded mintage: 7,000,000 plus 3,000,000 "star" pesos plus a few proofs.
Specification: 26.73 g, 0.900 fine silver, .773 troy oz AGW.
