Stack's Bowers 2015 NYINC sale, lot 3439
Cuba Stacks Jan15-3439r.jpg

This specimen was lot 3439 in Stacks-Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2015), where it sold for $223.25. The catalog description[1] noted, "CUBA. Peso, 1932. NGC MS-62." This type was struck in the United States for Cuba 1915-16 and 1932-34 using silver dollar blanks. Most were held in government vaults as backing for paper currency and later melted; the original mintage has little bearing on the number of survivors. This date isn't rare. All 1932's exhibit the "low relief star"; compare with the 1915 peso.

Recorded mintage: 3,550,000.

Specification: 26.73 g, 0.900 fine silver, .768 troy oz AGW.

Catalog reference: KM-15.2.
