Stack's Bowers 2026 NYINC sale, lot 45917
SB126-45917r.jpg

This specimen was lot 45917 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2026), where it sold for $660. The catalog description[1] noted, "CROATIA. Ducat, 1994. NGC PROOF-65. Ruder Baskovic issue." Wikipedia comments, "Roger Joseph Boscovich, SJ (1711-87) was a physicist, astronomer, mathematician, philosopher, diplomat, poet, theologian, Jesuit priest, and a polymath from the Republic of Ragusa. He studied and lived in Italy and France where he also published many of his works." However, this NCLT marks not the eminent scientist but the use of the banknotes of the Croatian dinar, on which he was depicted. In 1994, the dinar was superseded by the kuna (1 kuna = 1000 dinara). The kuna, in turn, was replaced by the euro in 2023.

Recorded mintage: 5,000.

Specification: 3.49 g, 0.986 fine gold, 20 mm diameter, 0.111 troy oz AGW.

Catalog reference: Fr-5; KM-35.
