This specimen was lot 20460 in Heritage sale 3021 (New York, January 2013), where it sold for $4,993.75. The catalog description[2] noted, "Republic 50 Centimos 1914 GCR, MS62 NGC, lightly toned with abundant mint luster, an attractive example of this extremely rare date struck at the Philadelphia Mint. One of the key coins in the Costa Rica series with only a handful thought to exist. The Cecil Webster Collection of Costa Rica." The SCWC notes that a substantial number were made but nearly all were converted to one colon pieces in 1923 by counterstamping (KM 164).

Recorded mintage: 202,213 but nearly all counterstamped in 1923 to one colon (KM 164).

Specification: 10 g, 0.900 fine silver, .289 troy oz ASW, reeded edge, 29 mm diameter.
