This specimen was part of lot 27077 in Heritage sale 3022 (New York, January 2013), which sold for $1,410. The catalog description[1] noted, "Lot of Ten 50 Centavos Coins. Dates are 1865-1890. Listed as KM112 & KM124. Average grade is VF. Sold as is, no return lot. The Cecil Webster Collection of Costa Rica." This type was struck for Costa Rica 1880-90 and is fairly common in circulated condition. Costa Rica officially switched from the peso to the colon in 1897, which currency was reformed again in 1917 and 1920.
