This specimen was lot 20459 in Heritage sale 3021 (New York, January 2013), where it sold for $5,287.50. The catalog description[1] noted, "Republic gold 10 Pesos 1876-GW, AU58 NGC, a choice piece with extremely sharp design features and nearly full mint luster. The surfaces are slightly grainy due to rusty dies. Rare one-year type with a mintage of 3,389. The Cecil Webster Collection of Costa Rica." Costa Rica officially switched from the peso to the colon in 1897, which currency was reformed again in 1917 and 1920. Gold ten pesos were issued 1870-72 and 1876 but all are rare.
