This specimen was lot 24120 in Heritage sale 3019 (Chicago, April 2012), where it did not sell. The catalog description[2] noted, "Central American Republic gold 1/2 Escudo 1847 CR-JB, MS62 NGC, sharply struck with full details on both sides, lightly toned and original. The R in the mintmark was punched at least 3 times! Very scarce little type in mint state." This type was struck in Costa Rica 1828 and 1843-49; the 1846 is the most common date. A variety of 1847 exists with an inverted "C" in the mintmark.

Recorded mintage: 23,000.

Specification: 1.69 g, 0.875 fine gold, .047 troy oz AGW.
