This specimen was lot 2962 in Goldberg sale 75 (Los Angeles, September 2013), where it sold for $2,875. The catalog description[1] noted, "Cook Islands. 200 Dollars, 2003. Elizabeth II. Reverse: 275th Anniversary of Captain James Cook, 1728-2003. NGC graded MS-69." The Cook Islands, like many small, impoverished nations, has contracted with private mints to produce and market a large variety of commemoratives marketed in lands far from the issuing country. Captain Cook is somewhat relevant but other issues honor Garfield the cat and Mickey Mouse.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 62.2 g, 0.999 fine gold, 2.00 oz AGW.

Catalog reference: KM unlisted.
