The first specimen was part of lot 44448 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Philadelphia, August 2018), which sold for $168. The catalog description[1] noted, "COLOMBIA. Lot of (10) 50 Centavos, 1892-1921. Various Mints. VF-20, VF-30, EF-40 (2), EF-45 (2), AU Detail--Cleaned (2), VF Detail--Scratch & VF Detail--Graffiti (PCGS). 10 pieces in lot. 1892 Large Head, KM-187.1, Restrepo-408.2, old cleaning that is now retoning, 1915 and 1916 Bogota, KM-193.1, Restrepo type 414, both VF with even wear and a few hits in the fields, gray toned. Remainder from Medellin mint, KM-193.2: 1914, Restrepo-415.1, well struck with very light cleaning, 1918/4 Restrepo-415.3g, gray toned with scratches on the reverse shield and fields, 1919 medal turn, Restrepo-415.7i, toned with scratches to right of reverse shield, 1919/9 repunched date EF-45, Restrepo-415.6, and (3) 1921, Restrepo-415.8, all EF-40 and EF-45 with various degrees of gray toning. From the Eldorado Collection of Colombian Coins." The second specimen was part of lot 44457 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Philadelphia, August 2018), where it sold for $840. The catalog description[1] noted, "COLOMBIA. Lot of (3) 50 Centavos, 1902-1914. Various Mints. MS-62 & MS-63 (2) (PCGS). 3 pieces in lot. 1902 Heaton, KM-192, Restrepo-411.1, sharply struck with attractive russet toning, 1907 Bogota, KM-186.2, Restrepo-413.3, lustrous and toned, and 1914 Medellin, well struck and lightly toned with obverse die clash. From the Eldorado Collection of Colombian Coins." This type, with the portrait of hero Simon Bolivar, superseded the liberty head type last struck in 1908. The date is somewhat scarce. To the delight and despair of collectors, the half dollars of Colombia come in a profusion of dates, styles, varieties and errors and form a collecting specialty all their own.
