This specimen was lot 98 in Sedwick sale 25 (Winter Park, FL, May 2019), where it sold for $654.50. The catalog description[1] noted, "Bogota, Colombia, bust 2 escudos, Charles III, 1774JJ/VJ. Scarce over-assayer variety, bold strike and good rims, XF with clover-shaped banker's mark in field behind head." This type was struck at Nuevo Reino (Bogotá) and Popayán 1772-84 and is probably the most common two escudos of colonial Latin America. Multiple assayers (VJ, JJ) are known for this date.

Specification: 6.77 g, .901 fine gold, .196 troy oz AGW, this specimen 6.76 grams.
