This specimen was lot 20334 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Anaheim, CA, August 2016), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted, "COLOMBIA. 4 Escudos, 1749/8-FS. Ferdinando IV (1746-59). NGC EF-45. VERY RARE. With bifurcated ribbons in reverse fleur-de-lis. Tops of the date run off the flan. Struck on a compact flan and with fully original surfaces. Darker toned metal within the protected areas contrasting nicely with the raised devices. Well centered and attractive. Missing from nearly all collections." This type is listed for 1747-56 with all dates marked as rare. It was struck for Fernando VI, not Fernando IV. Milled coinage of gold commenced in 1756.
