Stack's Bowers 2025 ANA sale, lot 41127
SB825-41127r.jpg

This specimen was lot 41127 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Oklahoma City, OK, August 2025), where it sold for $2,640. The catalog description[1] noted, "COLOMBIA. Cob 1/2 Real, 1674/3. Santa Fe de Nuevo Reino (Bogota) Mint. Charles II. PCGS VF-35. POSSIBLY UNIQUE as an example of this date (with or without the overdate variety), and likely among the most desirable representatives of this compact hammered type, with a clear and full date that is quite infrequently encountered. The cataloguer notes that this coin would seem quite conservatively graded, with little wear of note and seemingly About Uncirculated sharpness, though the assigned grade in truth matters little in the face of the sheer RARITY of this silver minor. From the Richard August Collection." The SCWC lists only 1673 for this type but others surely exist. We don't think this coin ever had an assayer initial and we're doubtful of the mintmark.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 1.69 g, 0.931 fine silver.

Catalog reference: Cayón-unlisted, KM-A8 (Unlisted date); Restrepo-Type-M54.1.
