Sincona sale 18, lot 1428

This specimen was lot 1428 in Sincona sale 18 (Zürich, May 2014), where it sold for CHF 1,300 (about US$1,713 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"Dukat 1575. Deutz. Sehr schön-vorzüglich. (Germany, archbishopric of Cologne, ducat of 1575, very fine to extremely fine.)"

The archbishopric of Cologne, like Mainz and Trier, was an ecclesiastical state along the river Rhine whose ruler was one of the Electors of the Empire.
