Chur 1637 10 kreuzer KM-93
This specimen was lot 1184 in Sincona Auction 100 (Zürich, October 2025), where it sold for 12,000 CHF (about US$18,087 including buyers' fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"SCHWEIZ Graubünden, Chur, Bistum, Johann VI. Flugi von Aspermont, 1636-1661. 10 Kreuzer 1637, Mit Titel Ferdinands III. .IOAN.D.G.EPIS.CVR.D.IN.GROSENGE Quadrierter Schild auf einer verzierten Kartusche unter Bischofshut. Rv. .FERDIN.III.D - G.ROM.IM.S.AV Gekrönter Doppeladler mit Reichsapfel mit Wertzahl auf der Brust, im Abschnitt die Jahreszahl. Von grösster Seltenheit. Gutes sehr schön. (Switzerland, bishopric of Chur, John IV Flugi of Aspermont, 1636-61, ten kreuzer of 1637, struck in the name of Ferdinand III. Obverse: cardinal's hat over quartered arms; reverse: crowned doubled headed eagle with an orb on its breast stamped with the value. Of the highest rarity, Good Very Fine.)"
This ten kreuzer shows a cardinal's hat over the arms, a privilege we don't think Johann VI Flugi von Aspermont was entitled to, as he was never appointed to that office by the pope. The city of Chur also struck this denomination in 1637.
Recorded mintage: unknown.
Specification: billon, this specimen 3.98 g.
