Sincona sale 35, lot 5229
Chur in Switzerland in 1648

This specimen was lot 5229 in Sincona sale 35 (Zürich, October 2016), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted,

"Chur, Bistum, Johann V. Flugi von Aspermont, 1601-1627 Taler 1626. Schön-sehr schön. Kl. Zainende. (bishopric of Chur, John of Flugi von Aspermont, 1601-27, thaler of 1626. Fine-very fine, Flan fault.)"

Chur, along with the rest of Switzerland, left the Empire in 1648 as part of the Treaty of Westphalia which ended the Thirty Years War. The city arms feature a leaping ibex.

Recorded mintage: unknown but very rare.
