Chile 1941 20 centavos KM-PnB63
This specimen was lot 30060 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2025), where it sold for $2,400. The catalog description[1] noted, "CHILE. Bronze Pattern 20 Centavos, 1941. Santiago Mint. NGC PROOF-66 Red Brown. The single finest certified on the NGC population report, none see on the PCGS census. Beautifully preserved and very attractive, this VERY RARE lovely mid-century pattern issue boasts crisp devices with reflective fields. The surfaces exhibit mottled iridescent patina with much original red and hues of magenta, cobalt and seafoam green lending to its pleasing appearance." This pattern was not adopted. The regular copper-nickel twenty centavos of 1919-41 (KM 167.3) is common. The twenty centavos was indeed converted to bronze in 1942 but used a bust of Bernardo O'Higgins instead (KM 177).
