Chile 1914 peso KM-Pn26
This specimen was lot 857 in Sedwick Auction 36 (Winter Park, FL, November 2024), where it sold for $6,000. The catalog description[1] noted, "CHILE, Santiago, proof pattern 1 peso, 1914, NGC PF 64, finest known in NGC census. Lustrous Proof surfaces with deep rainbow toning on condor side, quite pretty, the finer of just two at NGC." The mint also struck pattern fifty centavos (KM PnA27) and two pesos (KM Pn27). We don't know what alloy of silver was used for these patterns but the circulation issue of 1915 was 0.720 fine. Oscar Roty's defiant condor, first used in 1895, appeared on virtually all Chilean silver and copper-nickel coins until 1940.
Recorded mintage: unknown.
Specification: silver, 27.5 mm diameter.
