This specimen was lot 762 in Sedwick Treasure Auction 26 (Winter Park, FL, November 2019), where it sold for $952. The catalog description[1] noted, "Santiago, Chile, 20 centavos, 1874, REPUDLICA error, NGC MS 62, finest and only example in NGC census. Choice luster, no toning but a couple carbon spots, rare and shocking error with clear D/B in legend (first we have seen)." This type was struck 1867-79. The previous type (KM 135) had a high relief condor which struck up poorly. The succeeding type (KM 138.2) was reduced to 0.500 fine silver.
Recorded mintage: 1,256,000.
Specification: 5 g, 0.835 fine silver, 23 mm diameter.
