Chile 1869-So peso
This specimen was lot 1176 in Sedwick Treasure Auction 35 (Winter Park, FL, May 2024), where it sold for $1,920. The catalog description[1] noted, "CHILE, Santiago, 1 peso, 1869, NGC MS 63. Cartwheel luster on non-toned surfaces with minimal bagmarks, a few die-cracks, choice grade (currently tied with one other for second finest in NGC census behind a single MS 66)." The specimen shown is one of a type struck in Santiago, Chile, 1867-91. This date is common in circulated condition, making this handsome coin easy to add to ones collection of classic South American crowns. This example sold for four times the catalog value.
