This specimen was lot 31241 in Heritage sale 3029 (New York, January 2014), where it sold for $381.88. The catalog description[1] noted, "Republic gold Escudo 1843 So-IJ, VF Details (Bent) NGC." This "standing liberty" design, struck 1839-51, succeeded the "hand on book" type (KM 99, struck 1838 only). The SCWC records the weight of this coin as 3.3 g; earlier colonial one escudos were nominally 3.38 g. None of the recorded mintages are large.

Recorded mintage: 4,632.

Specification: 3.3 g, 0.875 fine gold, .093 troy oz AGW, 19 mm diameter.
