This specimen was lot 20276 in Heritage sale 3021 (New York, January 2013), where it sold for $1,645. The catalog description[1] noted, "Republic gold 8 Escudos 1823-FI, VF with traces of luster in the legends, noticeable laminations on the reverse and several small nicks and scratches. Ex: Superior December, 1989, Jascha Heifetz Collection." This type was struck 1818-34 in moderate quantities but increased demand has made this coin expensive.
