This specimen was lot 1334 in the Eliasberg sale, where it sold for $19,550. The catalog description[1] noted, "1755 J 1 escudo. Santiago mint. EF-45 (NGC). Small head of Fernando VI to right/type as above. Medium gold with deeper highlights, nick in right reverse field. A very rare denomination from Santiago under Fernando VI, entirely missing from the Norweb collection and not struck early enough to represented in the Luz treasure. KM lists only 1754 for this type (unpriced) and neither KM nor Friedberg lists this date. From the John H. Clapp Collection; Clapp estate to Louis E. Eliasberg, Sr., 1942."
