This specimen was lot 70357 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, October 2021), where it sold for $80. The catalog description[1] noted, "CEYLON. 5 Cents, 1909. London Mint. Edward VII. NGC MS-64. Minimally marked with a few natural golden toning streaks running vertically across the surfaces on both sides." This type was struck 1909-10. Both are common dates. This module was used again in 1912, 1920 and 1926 (KM 108) then converted to nickel-brass in 1942. While the 25 cents matched the quarter rupee of India, the five cents corresponded to no Indian coin. Ceylon, famous for tea, attained its independence in 1948 after the British left India and is now known as Sri Lanka.

Recorded mintage: 2,000,000.

Specification: 3.89 g, copper-nickel, 18 mm diameter.

Catalog reference: KM-103; Prid-185.
