This specimen was lot 1931 in Jean Elsen sale 154 (Brussels, March 2023), where it sold for €55 (about US$71 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted, "CEYLON (BRITISH), Victoria (1860-1901), AR 1 cent, 1870. Extremely Fine- Uncirculated." This type is listed for 1870, 1890-92, 1900-01 and is common. Restrikes in silver and gold exist. It was part of the decimal currency reform of 1870 in Ceylon. The earlier mix of stivers and rixdollars was inherited by the British from the Dutch, who occupied the island until 1796.
