Ceylon 1821 rixdollar
The first specimen was lot 31230 in Heritage sale 3029 (New York, January 2014), where it sold for $536.98. The catalog description[1] noted, "George IV Rixdollar 1821, AU55 NGC. Medium gray toning with just a hint of wear on the high points. A scarce and popular type featuring an elephant." The second specimen was lot 42419 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2019), where it sold for $264. The catalog description[2] noted, "CEYLON. Rixdollar, 1821. PCGS AU-58. The detail remains sharp and attractive multicolored tone over both sides results in wonderful eye appeal for the grade. From the Collection of Dr. James Eustace Bizzell, II." This one year type is the only issue for Ceylon bearing the portrait of George IV.
