This specimen was lot 84 in Classical Numismatic Group's sale of the Lissner Collection (Chicago, August 2014), where it sold for $665.50. The catalog description[1] noted, "CEYLON (SRI LANKA), Colonial. British. George III. 1760-1820. CU 1/24 Rixdollar. Hammered coinage. Colombo mint. Dated 1801. In NGC encapsulation graded XF 45 BN. Deep brown toning with nice surfaces. Usual crude flan, but beautiful fields. Much nicer than normally seen and on a very broad planchet. Purchased from Paul Davis, October 1971." This 1/24 rixdollar piece was struck by the hammer 1801-16 in Ceylon. This mix of stivers and rixdollars was inherited by the British from the Dutch, who occupied the island until 1796.
