Stack's Bowers 2021 NYINC sale, part of lot 22129

This specimen was lot 22129 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (Newport Beach, CA, January 2021), where it sold for $3,600. The catalog description[1] noted, "CAYMAN ISLANDS. 250 Dollars, 1988. London Mint. NGC PROOF-68 Ultra Cameo. Commemorating the royal visit of Princess Alexandra, this RARE modern issue is virtually flawless, offering supremely frosted devices and a great cameo nature." This NCLT was issued by the Cayman Islands to honor a Royal Visit. The island group south of Cuba was long ruled from Jamaica but came under separate administration after Jamaica obtained her independence in 1962. It is now famous as a tax haven and banking center much patronized by drug lords, ousted dictators and others seeking to avoid publicity.
