Goldberg sale 109, lot 2263
Cayman Is G109-2263r.jpg

This specimen was lot 2263 in Goldberg sale 109 (Los Angeles, January 2019), where it sold for $750. The catalog description[1] noted, "Cayman Islands. 100 Dollars, 1988. 500th Anniversary of Columbus Discovery of America. Mintage only 380 pieces. Choice Brilliant Proof." The actual anniversary, of course, was in 1992, and numerous NCLT's were issued by many countries to mark the occasion. Descendants of the Indians slaughtered by the marauding conquistadores were not so eager to celebrate.

Recorded mintage: 380 proofs.

Specification: 15.98 g, 0.917 fine gold, 0.4711 ounce AGW.

Catalog reference: KM-97.
