Casale 1661 soldo
This specimen was lot 167 in Nomisma Aste e-live-auction 3 (Verona, Italy, May 2023), where it sold for 25 euro (about US$33 including buyer's fees). The lot description noted, "CASALE Carlo Gonzaga/Nevers (1647-1665) Soldo 1661 - MB-BB. (Casale, Charles of Gonzaga-Nevers, 1647-65, soldo of 1661, fine to very fine.)" This rare type was struck 1661 only. Casale, originally part of the Marquisate of Montferrat, passed thru various hands before becoming an estate of the Dukes of Mantua. On the extinction of that duchy, Casale passed to Savoy in 1713. It is today part of Italy. All of the talleros and ducatones issued therefrom are rare.
