This specimen is one of a type struck at the Ottawa Mint for Canada to honor the Year of the Volunteer. In 1990, the dePedery-Hunt bust of the queen was adopted. In 2001, the weight was reduced to 1.77 g and the alloy converted to nickel-plated steel.
Recorded mintage: 224,714,000 plus 40,634 silver proofs plus 266,000,000 of the regular Bluenose reverse.
Specification: 1.77 g, nickel-plated steel, 18.03 mm diameter.
