Canada 1954 dollar
The first specimen was lot 20755 in Heritage sale 3008 (New York, January 2010), where it sold for $1,725. The catalog description[1] noted, "Elizabeth II Prooflike Dollar 1954, Prooflike 68 PCGS. A stunning example with pristine surfaces and light appealing toning in the obverse legends. There is also a bit of cameo contrast. Rare and desirable in this lofty designation." The second specimen was part of lot 26747 in Heritage sale 3022 (New York, January 2013), which sold for $470. The catalog description[2] noted, "Elizabeth II Six Piece Prooflike Set 1954, Cent to Dollar. Most cameo. A difficult set to find today." This type, struck at Ottawa 1953-63, is common in all grades but is scarce in unblemished condition. The use of chrome plated dies gave a polished appearance to the coins which in turn magnified the detractive effects of bagmarks.
