This specimen was lot 40124 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Costa Mesa, CA, August 2021), where it sold for $1,320. The catalog description[1] noted, "CANADA. 5 Cents, 1880-H. Heaton Mint. Victoria. PCGS MS-65 Gold Shield. Quite deeply toned and exceptionally alluring, this Gem minor radiates with an intense palette and delightful brilliance. Just two have been seen finer at PCGS." This type was struck 1858 and 1870-1901 in substantial quantities and most dates are fairly plentiful up to Extremely Fine.
Recorded mintage: 3,000,000, scarce despite the mintage.
Specification: 1.16 g, 0.925 fine silver, .034 troy oz ASW, reeded edge.
