Canada 1812 1/2 penny token

from the Stack's Bowers June 2021 Collector's Choice sale, lot 70423

This specimen was lot 70423 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, June 2021), where it sold for $228. The catalog description^[1] noted, "CANADA. Lower Canada. Copper "Wellington" Peninsular Token, 1812. NGC MS-65 Brown. Second finest example certified by NGC with the Brown designation. A sharply struck and pleasing Token, with mint red still hidden away in the protected areas." This token was issued decades before regular coinage was issued for Canada.
