This specimen was lot 33645 in Heritage sale 3067 (Long Beach, September 2018), where it sold for $780. The catalog description[1] noted, "Cameroon: Republic gold Proof 5000 Francs ND (1970) PR67 Ultra Cameo NGC. A top-quality example with glowing sun-yellow devices set against nearly undisturbed jet black fields. Currently the finest graded at NGC." This design was also used for commemorative one thousand, three thousand, five thousand (shown here), ten thousand and twenty thousand francs. No doubt they were passed out to friends and supporters of the beloved president as there is no evidence they ever circulated. The French-backed CFA franc is used for ordinary transactions.
