This specimen was lot 3351 in Goldberg sale 62 (Beverly Hills, February 2010), where it sold for $368. The catalog description[1] noted, "Cameroons. 1000 Francs, 1970. Head of President Ahidjo. Tenth Anniversary of Independence. Choice Brilliant Proof." This design was also used for commemorative one thousand (shown here), three thousand, five thousand, ten thousand and twenty thousand francs. No doubt they were passed out to friends and supporters of the beloved president as there is no evidence they ever circulated. The French-backed CFA franc is used for ordinary transactions.
