Steve Album sale 51, lot 1336

This specimen was lot 1336 in Steve Album Auction 51 (Santa Rosa, CA, January 2025), where it sold for $780. The catalog description[1] noted, "CAMBODIA: Norodom I, 1859-1904, AR 25 centimes, 1902, souvenir issue, very lustrous, mintage of only 250 pieces, PCGS graded MS63, R5 (Daniel), ex Howard A. Daniel III Collection." In 1875, Norodom ordered a series of patterns from Europe (mint not known but likely Paris or Brussels) for a proposed milled coinage which never came off. Silver piastres, four francs, two francs, one francs, fifty centimes and twenty-five centimes and bronze ten, five, two and one centimes were prepared, all conforming to French standards. Later, pieforts and off-metal strikes were made and sold to collectors, leading to a profusion of listings in the Unusual World Coins. This item has a decidedly unofficial look to it.

Recorded mintage: 250.

Specification: silver.

Catalog reference: Lecompte-106.
