Bulgaria 1934 50 leva

Sincona sale 23, lot 2060

This specimen was lot 2060 in Sincona sale 23 (Zürich, May 2015), where it did not sell. The catalog description^[1] noted,

"BULGARIEN, Boris III. 1918-1943 50 Lewa 1934. Gutes vorzüglich. (kingdom of Bulgaria, Boris III (1918-43), fifty leva of 1934, good extremely fine.)"

This type was struck at the London and Belgrade mints for the kingdom of Bulgaria in 1934 and 1937, along with a similar hundred leva. The king, Boris III, chose the Axis side during World War Two and was deposed by the Communists in 1943 as the Soviet army approached.

Recorded mintage: 3,001,000 plus proofs.

Specification: 10 g, 0.500 fine silver, this specimen 9.95 g.
