This specimen was lot 34427 in Heritage sale 3094 (Chicago, August 2021), where it sold for $10,200. The catalog description[1] noted, "Bulgaria: Ferdinand I gold 100 Leva 1894-KB AU Details (Obverse Cleaned) NGC, Kremnitz mint. A very scarce type in an appreciable state despite the noted cleaning. Fully embossed raised features are perfectly centered, while the reverse crowned arms remain commendably frosty." The Kremnitz mint (then in Hungary) also struck one, two, five, ten and twenty leva for Bulgaria in 1894. Bulgaria did not become fully independent until 1908.
