Künker Auction 439, lot 2398

This specimen was lot 2398 in Künker sale 439 (Osnabrück, March 2026), where it sold for €4,600 (about US$6,328 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"BRAUNSCHWEIG-WOLFENBÜTTEL, FÜRSTENTUM Wilhelm, 1831-1884. 10 Taler 1833 CvC. Mit runder "3" in der Jahreszahl. GOLD. Seltener Jahrgang in außergewöhnlicher Erhaltung. Prachtexemplar. Fast Stempelglanz. Aus der Sammlung Jürgen und Erika Schmidt, Bovenden. Exemplar der Auktion Fritz Rudolf Künker 100, Osnabrück 2005, Nr. 357. (duchy of Brunswick-Wolfenbüttel, William, 1831-84, ten thalers of 1833, with round 3 in the date. Very rare date in this condition, cabinet example, about uncirculated.)"

This type was issued in small quantities 1831-34 along with a gold 2½ (KM 1125) and five thaler (KM 1126). William's brother Karl II was overthrown in 1830 after refusing to recognize a constitution imposed by his cousin and regent, prince George of Great Britain. The last ten thaler was struck in 1857.
