This specimen was lot 216 in Sincona Auction 103 (Zürich, May 2026), where it sold for 675 CHF (about US$1,029 including buyers' fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"DEUTSCHLAND Braunschweig-Lüneburg-Wolfenbüttel, Herzogtum. Heinrich der Jüngere, 1514-1568. Taler 1560, Goslar. Gutes sehr schön. Überdurchschnittlich gut ausgeprägt. (Germany, duchy of Brunswick-Wolfenbüttel, Henry the Younger, 1514-68, thaler of 1560, Goslar mint. Good Very Fine, Extraordinarily well struck.)"
This type was struck 1557-68 and is not common altho it is more available than many other thalers of this reign from this state. It is similar to Dav-9046 but with the date moved to the obverse. The cross of Lorraine mintmark refers to Andreas, mintmaster 1570-99. Riechenberg was the only other mint coining for the duke at this time.
Recorded mintage: unknown.
Specification: 28.5 g, silver, 40 mm diameter, this specimen 29.08 g.
