Von größter Seltenheit. Schrötlingsrisse, Stempelfehler am Rand, kl. Kratzer, sehr schön-vorzüglich. Exemplar der Auktion Fritz Rudolf Künker 20, Osnabrück 1991, Nr. 2176 und der Sammlung Friedrich Popken, Auktion Fritz Rudolf Künker 375, Osnabrück 2022, Nr. 2176. (duchy of Brunswick-Lüneburg-Calenberg, George I, 1636-41, five thaler of 1638, Zellerfeld mint, for the Harz mines, without value punched in. Obverse: The armored Duke, holding a marshal's baton in his right hand and a sword at his left side, rides to the left across a mining landscape, surrounded by ornamentation; reverse: two helmeted wild men support the triple helmeted manifold arms. Extremley rare, planchet cracks, die crack at the rim, hairlines, very fine to extremely fine.)
(The extreme rarity of this piece is likely attributable to the fact that the reverse die fractured in several places after only a short period of use, developing cracks and small chips along the rim. These defects are clearly visible on the present specimen. The most significant die flaw—located above the helmet crest—was smoothed over at the time of production, presumably for aesthetic reasons.)"
Recorded mintage: unknown.
Specification: silver, 87 mm diameter, this specimen 143,30 g.
