Brunswick-Wolfenbüttel in 1914, with Blankenburg to the south

This specimen was lot 2390 in Künker sale 439 (Osnabrück, March 2026), where it sold for €2,200 (about US$3,027 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"BRAUNSCHWEIG-WOLFENBÜTTEL, FÜRSTENTUM Ludwig Rudolf, 1731-1735, seit 1714 in Blankenburg. Dukat 1726, Münzstätte vermutlich Braunschweig. 3,46 g GOLD. RR Vorzüglich. (duchy of Brunswick-Wolfenbüttel, Louis Rudolf, 1731-35, duke since 1714 in Blankenburg, ducat of 1726, probably Brunswick mint. Very rare, extremely fine.)"

This scarce type was struck 1726-30 and it is one of several ducats issued by the duke in 1726 (KM 12, 28 (shown here), 29, 30, 31, 32). Ludwig Rudolf succeeded to Brunswick-Wolfenbüttel in 1731 and dropped the Brunswick-Blankenburg title.
