This specimen was lot 2176 in Goldberg sale 91 (Los Angeles, June 2016), where it sold for $705. The catalog description[1] noted, "Brunei. 750 Dollars, AH1400 (1980) NGC PF68 UC. Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah. Year of Hejira 1400. Head right. NGC graded Proof 68 Ultra Cameo Silver Wings." Unlike many of her neighbors, Brunei on the island of Borneo has become wealthy on the deposits of oil and natural gas. The area was formerly a British colony. This commemorative is struck to the standard of a British double sovereign.
