British West Africa comprised Gambia, Sierra Leone, Gold Coast (now Ghana) and Nigeria. The union broke up in the late fifties as the parts were granted independence. Threepence pieces were issued for the region starting in 1913. This type was issued 1938-1947, and replaced a smaller tin-brass type (KM 10b). This specimen was lot 2078 in Goldberg sale 81 (Los Angeles, September 2014), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted, "British West Africa. 3 Pence, 1940-KN. George V. PCGS graded Specimen 66. Ex: King's Norton Mint Collection."
