British West Africa 1920-KN 6 pence

British West Africa comprised Gambia, Sierra Leone, Gold Coast (now Ghana) and Nigeria. The union broke up in the late fifties as the parts were granted independence. This specimen was lot 71167 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice sale (Santa Ana, CA, October 2020), where it sold for $80. The catalog description[1] noted, "BRITISH WEST AFRICA. 6 Pence, 1920-KN. Kings Norton Mint. PCGS MS-64 Gold Shield. A decently struck coin with light to medium brassy color and some evidence of die rust on the obverse." This type was struck 1920, 1923-25, 1928, 1933-36 and this is the most common date. Sixpences were also struck in silver in 1920.
