This specimen was lot 51058 in Stack's Bowers Hong Kong auction (Hong Kong, April 2021), where it sold for $552. The catalog description[1] noted, "BRITISH NORTH BORNEO. 1/2 Cent, 1885-H. Heaton Mint. NGC MS-64 Brown. Toned an even brown without any marks or spots, this SCARCE first year of issue stands as a delightful near-Gem." British North Borneo is today known as Sabah and is a state of Malaysia. In the nineteenth century, half cents and cents were issued for the colony by the Heaton Mint. This type was struck 1885-87, 1891.
