British Honduras 1950 5 cents
This specimen was lot 70235 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Santa Ana, CA, May 2018), where it sold for $1,080. The catalog description[1] noted, "BRITISH HONDURAS. 5 Cents, 1950. NGC PROOF-64. RARE, finest certified example at either NGC or PCGS. Sharply struck with light iridescent tone. From the Richard Stuart Collection." This type was struck 1949-52 and is common. The country, long claimed by Guatemala, is now known as Belize. The issues of British Honduras are marked by their dull design; the reverse on this coin was used during the reigns of queen Victoria, kings Edward VII, George V, George VI and later queen Elizabeth II.
Recorded mintage: 225,000 plus a few proofs.
